Policies

These terms cover your account and your conduct on Whiteout. Using the site means you accept them.

This is an initial version; it will be refined before public launch.

Who runs Whiteout

Whiteout is a free online hockey game operated by Intrepid Systems. You can reach us at contact@intrepid.systems.

Who can play

You must be 13 or older to hold an account.

We do not ask for your date of birth. When you create an account you confirm you meet the age limit. We collect as little about you as we can, and an age we cannot verify is not worth holding.

If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we close it and delete what we hold.

Fiction and likeness

Whiteout is a work of fiction. Its teams, players, leagues, arenas, cities as presented, logos and names are invented for the game. Any resemblance to real people, living or dead, or to real teams, leagues, organisations or their marks is coincidental and unintended. Whiteout is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any professional or amateur hockey league, team or players' association.

A club you build is your own work and your own responsibility: the city, the nickname, the arena, the colours, the crest and the player names are choices you make, and they must not copy or pass themselves off as a real person, a real club or anyone's mark. The rules for that, and what happens when a name breaks them, are under Fair play.

Your account

One person, one account. Keep your password to yourself.

You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us if you think someone else has it.

A username, club name, team colours or profile text that breaks the rules below can be reset by a moderator without notice.

Fair play

Play the game as it is meant to be played. In particular, do not:

  • cheat, including bots, scripts, modified clients, exploiting a bug instead of reporting it, or throwing a ranked game;
  • run more than one account to inflate a rating, stack a tournament, or vote or trade with yourself;
  • harass anyone in chat, direct messages, a club or a league, including threats, slurs, sexual content aimed at a person, and pile-ons;
  • impersonate another player, a moderator, a real team, or us, in your name, profile, club or messages;
  • post anything illegal, or anything you have no right to post, including other people's artwork and logos;
  • attack the service, scrape it, or try to reach data that is not yours.

Leaving a match early or going idle in one is not cheating, but it is tracked and it can cost you a rating or a queue.

Reports, moderation and sanctions

Any player can report another from a game, a chat message, a direct message or a profile. Reports go to a queue that moderators work through with the evidence the server already holds, such as the match record and the chat around the report.

Where a rule is broken we can mute an account, block it from chat, matchmaking, leagues, tournaments or club play, hold back XP, reset a name, freeze a club, or close the account. A sanction can be limited to one room, league or tournament, or apply everywhere. Most are temporary and expire on their own.

We aim for the smallest sanction that stops the behaviour. Cheating, threats and sustained harassment go straight to the largest.

If you think a sanction is wrong, write to contact@intrepid.systems with your username and the date. A moderator who did not make the original call will read it.

Clubs, players and prizes

Everything you earn in Whiteout stays in Whiteout. Club players, call-ups, abilities, prize tokens, cosmetics, ratings and trophies are features of the game, not property and not money.

They have no cash value. They cannot be bought, sold, traded for money, or cashed out, and we do not owe you anything for them if your account closes or the game shuts down.

We can change how any of it works. Balance changes, resets of a season or a ladder, and adjustments to odds or rewards are part of running a game.

Ending it

You can delete your account at any time from Settings, under Account. Deletion is explained on the Privacy page.

We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or that we are required to close. We can also stop running Whiteout. If we do, we will say so in advance where we can.

What we promise, and what we do not

Whiteout is free and it is a game. We run it with care, but we cannot promise it will always be available, always be fast, or never lose a match, a club or a record. There is no service guarantee here.

We are not liable for anything another player says or does, for a missed tournament, or for lost progress. Where the law lets us limit our liability, we limit it as far as it allows. Some rights you have as a consumer cannot be signed away, and nothing here tries to.

Keep your own copy of anything you would be sorry to lose.

Changes

These terms are published by Intrepid Systems, the holder named in the copyright line at the foot of every page, and we will update them as the game changes. The date at the top of this page is the date of the current version.

For a change that affects your rights we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you do not accept it, delete your account.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of US, and its courts hear any dispute about them.
